At this rate, my relationship with Shizuku will end. Shizuku would close her heart due to guilt, hate me for lying to her, and hate herself as well.

「Hey! A-kun!?」

I grabbed Rinko’s shoulders and pushed her down on the floor.

「Please Rinko…. I’m begging you…! Don’t tell Shizuku that I’ve been faking the hypnosis」

I didn’t want my relationship with Shizuku to end. That was my only thought. I know it’s pathetic and too convenient to try to appeal to her emotions now. Even so, I couldn’t lose the chance that Shizuku would open up to me.

「…………I’m sorry, but the more desperate you get, the lighter my mouth gets. It makes me want to end this relationship between you two」

「Why are you doing this……！」

「A-kun, do you know why Shizuku-chan’s hypnosis didn’t work on you？」

「That’s none of your business right now！」

Rinko said, biting her lip. Her eyes were a little wet, and her cheeks were dyed a little red.

Rinko, who was supposed to be in an overwhelmingly dominant position, was somehow on the verge of crying.

「……I don’t really undershow how…the hypnosis failed either. It’s… simply because Shizuku made some mistake and it didn’t’ work…」

「Shizuku-chan tried to use something as frowned upon as hypnosis, you know? She was absolutely confident that she could put it on. That’s why she must have experimented with someone else and prepared carefully. If hse failed, her relationship with A-kun would be over」

The reason why the hypnosis failed. I had never thought about it deeply before.

If Shizuku hadn’t just made a mistake in the procedure, what could have caused the hypnosis to fail?

Now that Rinko had found out my secret, I couldn’t even think straight now, nevertheless keep my cool.

「I can’t allow A-kun to act this nicely to Shizuku-chan. I’ll end it, no matter what.」

「……! Why do you have to be so unhappy about it…?! You’ve noticed the change in Shizuku, haven’t you? I’m sure you’ve noticed the change in Shizuku, she’s been closed up but she’s trying to change. Hypnosis may be considered an outlandish method, and from Rinko’s point of view, it may be an unfair trick, but I don’t mind being tricked as long as it make Shizuku smile from the bottom of her heart!」

There was nothing manipulative about it.

「It’s you, A-kun who should be unhappy……」

「 ! 」

Cold droplets spilled from her eyes. Rinko was crying.

「Why……are you crying……」

「Because… I like you a lot」

Rinko said, her wet eyes narrowing slightly.

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard this confession from my childhood friend.

Why couldn’t’ Rinko forgive Shizuku for trying to change, and why couldn’t Rinko forgive me for sticking up for Shizuku?

I’m not insensitive that I can’t figure it out in this situation.

「I’m sorry……」

In contrast to my stepsister, who’d tell me to die and die everyday, my childhood friend would tell me she likes me everyday.

That’s probably why Rinko couldn’t ever forgive Shizuku. She couldn’t forgive Shizuku for not having the courage to be honest about her feelings.

「I’ll end it……If you really don’t want to, you can stop it with the same lies you used」

Rinko pushed the hypnosis book against my chest. She then slipped out easily from my restraints and opened the door to my room as if nothing had happened.

「Sorry for being such a sly girl……」

I then heard the sound of the door closing. In the sweet-smelling room, I huddled, alone.

The moonlight illuminated the area. It’s 2 a.m.

A  pale, ordinary residential area. I had a peculiar feeling that I was in a strange place, even though it was very close to my own house.

The hypnosis book that Rinko brought to me from Shizuku’s room, I placed back gently after Shizuku fell asleep.

When Iwas a child, I used to visit Rinko’s house many times. When I placed my hand on the doorknob of the front door, the door opened with a gentle creek.

「I knew it……It’s unlocked……」

I headed straight for Rinko’s room, making as little noise as possible. I traced the fragments of my memory, and headed up the stairs, immediately finding the room on the left.

If you don’t want Shizuku to find out, you can use the same lie to stop it. That’s what Rinko said.

The meaning of Rinko’s words, the hypnosis book she gave me, was easy to understand. 

It’s done. I entered the room, trying not to make any sounds.

In the darkness, I heard a lovely sleeping sound.

Same lie. Just as Shizuku tied me up with hypnosis, Rinko is trying to get me to tie her up. It’s the same lie, same hypnosis.

『If you don’t want to be exposed, you can use hypnosis to brainwash me』

Rinko had probably said so, in simple words.

To force me to make a choice, and to make it seem like it’s my decision.

The moonlight spilt faintly from the window. The pale pillar of light illuminated the face of my childhood friend, who was sleeping peacefully.

「Rinko, wake up」

I muttered softly. Rinko shook her long eyelashes and opened her eyes.

「……Good afternoon, A-kun. I knew you’d come」

「……Did you plan everything up to this point?」

「……Of course. That was the plan all along」

Shizuku had used the magic of hypnosis to bring me closer to her. That’s why Rinko planned to use that same magic to her advantage. If she threatened to reveal the hypnosis, I, who put Shizuku first, would use it to get Rinko to do my bidding. Rinko had read, planned, and executed her plan to life.

「Now I’ll be like Shizuku-chan」

In the same position as Shizuku, and knowing everything, she chose to do it.

「Sorry Rinko……I’m really sorry……」

I can’t respond to my childhood friend’s feelings right now. Even though we are not related by blood, I have a sister who is very important to me.

For the sake of my stepsister, I’ll brainwash my childhood friend. I have no excuse. I am a horrible person.

「It’s okay A-kun」

She grabbed me by the chest and pulled me closer.

「Suffer a lot, and in the end, finally fall in love with me」

She loved me so much that she’s been telling me how she feels about me for so long, but I’ve neglected all of it. And now, I’m trying to hypnotize the grieving girl herself to make it up.

Even if I am tormented by the reprimands of my conscience, my purpose has been one from the beginning.

「Shizuku. I want her to be happy from the bottom of my heart. So, Rinko, I’m going to hypnotize you」

In the worst way, without deceiving it, I told her how I really felt.

「Yeah, it’s okay. Make me crazy」

Rinko stared at the swaying five-yen coin in my right hand

「As your body relaxes……You will be at my mercy……」

Her pupils started to dilate and the light was lost in her eyes.

「Rinko……For the sake of me,  live for me」

I made the order. I’m going to use Rinko. I can’t let her give Shizuku to Hayami. I’m going to make Rinko help me win against Hayami. That’s why I made the order so that I could control everything about Rinko.

There was light once again in her eyes.

「I understand. I’ll live for you, A-kun」

Rinko said, with a big smile on her face.
